QUALITY MANAGER | AS9100, QMS & PRECISION MANUFACTURING
LEAD QUALITY. STRENGTHEN THE SYSTEM. RAISE THE STANDARD.
Our client is a growing, fast-paced contract manufacturing company specializing in sheet metal fabrication, CNC machining, welding, and assembly. The organization serves demanding customers across industries including aerospace, defense, industrial, and commercial manufacturing.
We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Quality Manager to lead the company's quality assurance and quality control functions and strengthen the systems, processes, and culture that support consistent, high-quality manufacturing.
This is a shop-floor-oriented leadership role for someone who understands both quality systems and how fabricated and machined products are actually manufactured. The successful candidate will be comfortable moving between the production floor, inspection, engineering, documentation, customer requirements, and leadership discussions.
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
- Quality Management System: Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve the facility's QMS in alignment with AS9100 and applicable customer and industry requirements.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with customer specifications and applicable standards and regulations, including AWS, ASME, and ITAR requirements.
- Inspection & Testing: Oversee inspection activities covering incoming materials, in-process manufacturing, and final inspection for sheet metal and CNC components.
- Metrology: Ensure measuring and test equipment is properly calibrated, maintained, and available to support production requirements.
- Nonconformance & Corrective Action: Lead root-cause analysis, nonconformance resolution, corrective and preventive actions, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Quality Documentation: Maintain inspection records, material traceability, quality documentation, and NCRs with a high level of accuracy and discipline.
- Quality Metrics: Develop and communicate quality performance metrics to company leadership and, when appropriate, customers.
- Audits: Lead internal audits and support external audits, customer audits, and customer visits, particularly those associated with AS9100.
- Continuous Improvement: Apply Lean Manufacturing, 5S, Six Sigma, SPC, and other quality and process-improvement methodologies to improve manufacturing performance.
- Team Leadership: Lead, develop, and train quality inspectors and technicians while establishing clear expectations for quality and accountability.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with Engineering, Estimating, Production, Operations, and customers to identify quality risks and prevent problems before they reach the customer.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
A hands-on quality leader who combines strong QMS expertise with practical experience in a complex manufacturing environment.
Required:
- 5+ years of quality management experience in a contract manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience with sheet metal fabrication and CNC machining.
- Strong knowledge of AS9100 quality management systems.
- Working knowledge of ITAR requirements and their application to quality processes and documentation.
- Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings and interpret GD&T for fabricated and machined components.
- Hands-on familiarity with calipers, micrometers, CMMs, and other precision measurement equipment.
- Experience with inspection, material traceability, nonconformance management, root-cause analysis, and corrective action.
- Experience leading or supporting internal and external quality audits.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Willingness to spend significant time on the production floor.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Quality, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
PARTICULARLY RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
AS9100 | Aerospace & defense manufacturing | ITAR | Sheet metal fabrication | CNC machining | Contract manufacturing | Precision inspection | GD&T | CMM | QMS | CAPA | NCR | Root-cause analysis | SPC | Lean Manufacturing | Six Sigma | 5S | ERP/MRP
Preferred:
- ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification.
- Lean/Six Sigma Green or Black Belt.
- Experience with ERP/MRP quality modules.
- Familiarity with PPAP, FMEA, SPC, or APQP.
- Experience working directly with demanding aerospace, defense, or industrial customers.
WHO WILL DO WELL HERE
You are a strong fit if you are equally comfortable with the QMS and the shop floor. You understand that quality is not simply an inspection function. You know how to identify the root cause of a problem, work with production and engineering to correct it, establish processes that prevent recurrence, and build accountability throughout the organization.
You can discuss AS9100 requirements with an auditor, GD&T with an engineer, inspection requirements with a quality technician, and a manufacturing problem with a production supervisor.
You are detail-oriented without losing sight of the bigger operational picture, and you know how to build a culture where quality is owned by the entire organization—not just the Quality department.
WHY THIS OPPORTUNITY
This is an opportunity to take ownership of the quality function within a growing manufacturing organization where quality, precision, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement are critical to continued growth. The successful Quality Manager will have meaningful influence over the company's quality systems, manufacturing processes, customer relationships, audit readiness, and quality culture.
Work Environment: On-site, with significant production-floor presence required.
The position requires extended periods of standing and occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs. PPE and adherence to all applicable safety protocols are required.
